Brendan is passionate about education and helping others improve their woodworking skills. Brendan believes that with the correct tools and under the right guidance, everybody can succeed in making that piece of furniture you always wanted.

NIALL MCCONNACHIE

Teacher

Niall is an experienced teacher with a background in furniture design. Niall has worked for some of the countries best design firms and has been a member of Splinter Workshop for close to 10 years. Niall crafts his own designed furniture on a commission basis.

CHI YUSUF

Teacher

Meet Chi, your dedicated woodworker and instructor, whose passion for woodworking has been a lifelong companion. From the early days of crafting a stool in her grandfather's shed in Cyprus to formal training as a fine furniture maker at the Sturt School for Wood in the Southern Highlands, Chi's journey has been fueled by a love for creating with her hands. Now based in a workshop in Sydney's inner west, Chi spends her days immersed in the art of woodworking, blending the roles of teacher and creator. Her dedication to this craft is unwavering, and every piece she crafts carries the essence of her heart and soul. Chi's aspiration is for each creation to find a home where it's cherished as much as she cherishes the process of making. RHYS JONES

Teacher

Rhys studied wood furniture at the ANU School of Art in Canberra, and later completed a Master of Architecture at the University of Melbourne. He has a passion for sharing his knowledge and discoveries and has extensive experience teaching furniture making and design across multiple woodworking schools and workshops in Australia and overseas. Rhys has a fascination with timber chairs and woven surfaces, reflected in his practice as a continued exploration of de novo organic forms and weaving techniques.

SEBASTION WOOD

Teacher

Sebastian is a designer and maker specialising in bespoke pieces of furniture, joinery and cabinetry. He worked as a manager/production coordinator for a small timber furniture company, and has spent the past three years working as a furniture maker with Tim Noone Furniture Design. Sebastian has over 6 years of teaching experience at Heartwood Creative Woodworking.

OREST DANYLAK

Co-founder and course coordinator

With a background in architecture and a strong passion for cooking, Orest is known for his unique furniture design. His creative and risk-taking outlook helps to develop one-off pieces, making modern art practical.

LIAM MUNICH

Teacher

Teacher and tool expert. Liam is a Sturt graduate and Splinter member. He is very approachable and always loves a good chat. Be warned, if you get him on the topic of tools, you may not be home in time for dinner!
